I love being in the elements as well, but I definitely lean more on the side of “glamping” if I have the choice…ha! Which leads us to our first very crucial item to go over…shelter!

OUR TIPI

Shop: Seek Outside

  • “8 person” Tipi by Seek Outside — I put “8-person” in parenthesis as I personally wouldn’t want to max this tipi out with 8 people…especially if you are somewhat taller — Cory and I are both 5’9”. We are comfortable inside with our baby and our little dog Sadie (who is a Lhasa Apso). Our big dog Rawlo (Alaskan Husky) sleeps outside. You can stand up in this tipi however towards the side walls it gets tighter. This tipi is is on the pricier side, so if you are not an avid outdoor adventurer, perhaps grab a different setup.

One of my favorite features of this tipi is that it also comes with a modular stove to keep you warm in even the coldest of environments. Although, once Naia starts walking/running around we probably won’t set it up as it would definitely become a safety hazard for a little one who doesn’t yet understand what “hot” means (and tbh — I’ve almost burnt myself on it before, so adults be careful too). It’s worth noting that if you are a backpacker or hunter (like Cory), this tipi packs up super small and is lightweight to carry around which can be a major plus. They also have smaller and larger sizes and different colors available.

^ This photo was taken early in the morning as the sun was starting to shine through the tipi. The tipi we have is in the “Olive Green” color.

(We bought ours at REI on sale, but the exact bag we have is no longer available for purchase at REI — links are to what they currently offer).

  • The North Face Dolomite Double Sleeping Bag — We love our double sized sleeping bag! Especially me as I am the one who’s always cold! It keeps us very warm & cozy in cold/snowy conditions.

Shop:

Toys

  • Mushroom Rubber Toy/Teether by Oli & Carol — I’m totally obsessed with anything mushroom and was so happy that Naia loved this gift from her Aunt Katherine! Oli & Carol toys are made out of natural rubber, are easy for baby to grab and safe for baby to chew on as they are hand-painted with food graded dyes and are highly hygienic as there are no holes = no mold!

Shop: Oli & Carol | Amazon
*This specific mushroom rubber toy is now discontinued unfortunately, but they do have plenty of other amazing fruits, veggies, and more!)

  • Wooden Ladder Baby Rattle by Papa Don’s Toys — I found out about Papa Don’s toys at the Oregon Country Fair as I walked by their booth many times prior to becoming a mama. We have a few things from Papa Don’s (a second generation toymaker from Oregon) and it’s true that their toys are of heirloom quality. Most of the toys are made using red alder (also called Oregon alder) and all the paints and oils used on the toys are safe and non-toxic.

  • Oball Rattle Easy Grasp Toy by Bright Starts

Shop: Amazon

  • Blessing Basket by Ten by Three — I absolutely LOVE these baskets! They are handmade in Ghana, Africa and woven with elephant grass that is sustainably grown in the country. No two baskets are the same and I appreciate that. I have many of these baskets around our home in various sizes and colors. The basket size pictured in this post makes a wonderful basket to hold Naia’s toys and then whatever else later on.

Shop: Ten by Three or buy in person at any Whole Foods Market.
